An Instinct To Swarm

The New York Times reports that simple rules exist in the animal kingdom which allow thousands of individuals to form a semblance of collective intelligence. I can't help but think that this could lead to significant developments not only in scientific knowledge but also in developing more efficient societies and organizations.
